Valerie Dishong Herzfeld is a native Harrisburg, PA where she established her Middle Eastern and Hawaiian dance instruction/performance business, Miraj Productions. She earned her bachelor's degree in the performing arts from Lebanon Valley College, and has lectured on the topics of Middle Eastern and Polynesian dance at Harrisburg Area Community College and Elizabethtown College. The director and choreographer of Troupe Miraj, she was commissioned to choreograph for the Pennsylvania Youth Music Theater in 1994. She has taught and performed Middle Eastern dance in the United States since 1983, and has made several teaching and performance tours of England since 1997, including performances for members of Parliament. She was the featured performer at Cedars Lebanese Restaurant in Camp Hill, PA, The Kasbah Moroccan Restaurant in Harrisburg and Aangan Indian cuisine in Harrisburg 2003-2008. From 2008-2009 Miraj owned and operated Glitzy Chicks Dance Studio in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii.
Some of her non-dance performance experience includes radio voice-over work, Community Theater, and Television commercials. From 1997 through 2008 she also was an internationally known fashion designer and model, having appeared in magazines in the US and Europe. She has appeared on the cover of Harrisburg Woman Magazine, Jareeda, Renaissance Magazine, Meltdown, Gothic, and was the July 01 centerfold in Trails End Magazine.
